The site is located on recently reclaimed land. As security printers (printers of bank notes and other security documents) the building has to provide a temperature and humidity controlled environment for the printing processes and for the storage of paper as well as for a very high degree of security. For security reason, window openings have been kept to a minimum, they have been recessed behind thick mullions and transoms. The building is of reinforced load bearing double skin hollow concrete block wall construction and with steel stanchions and roof trusses over the main printing area. This method of construction is unusual in Hong Kong and is chosen for its economy and good insulation quantities. |
