Ronald Poon Consultants Ltd. was formally known as Ronald Poon Associates, offering architectural design and development consultant services. The Company¡¦s design approach reflects a concern in local identity, climate and environmental protection. The Company¡¦s product respects clients wishes as well as communal demands and stresses quality rather than quantity.
Ronald Poon Associates was established in January 1973. Completed projects included shop building in Shek-O; master plan for Garden Bakery expansion and Phase I extension factory; Po Toi Island resort development; Cactus Mansion in Wan Chai; Yuen Long Village housing study; renovation work for the Cathay Hotel; entry for the International competition for master plan (140,000 pop) and prototype low cost housing in Manila; 34 storey Albron court, a vertical condominium complex in Caine Road, competition entry for the Silver Jubilee Sports Centre etc. The practice has been a founder member of the Russell/Poon Group Partnership since 1976 and has undertaken a variety of projects including Home for the Severely handicapped Children in Taipo (receive the Joint Council for the Physically and Mentally Disabled 1994 Design Award); Ocean Parks in Singapore and Pupua New Guinea; High rise housing proposals in Taikoo Reservior and Shan Kwong Road; competition entry for the City Polytechnic jointly with Denys Lasdun, Redhouse and Softley of London which was shortlisted; money printing factory for Thomas de la Rue (HK) Ltd. in TaipoIndustrial Park which was awarded the HKIA Design Merit award in 1986.
Ronald Poon Consultants Ltd. was established in 1986 to provide package development consultancy service. The Company specialists in development work in China which included the Xian Mountain Inn; the Lanzhou Mountain Inn and various feasibility studies for projects in Beijing, Xian, Dunhuang, HainanIsland and Hangzhou. In 1988 Mr. Poon commenced design and development work in Thailand. The first project was the development of the Misty Hill Holiday Homes at Mae Taeng near Chiang Mai followed by a 30 storey holiday condominium in North Pattaya in 1989, a residential condominium in Soi 42, Ramkamheaeng, Bangkok in 1991 and sites at Thai Muang Beach Resort in Phuket.
In 1993 Mr. Poon was invited back to Hangzhou, China to undertake the development of the ¡§RiversideGarden¡¨, a 350 villa housing project at Xiao Shan. In 1994 the Company was appointed lead planning consultant for the Xidan North Street Western Commercial District redevelopment and architect for sites no. 2, 4 and 5 in Beijing, China. The design for sites 4 and 5 has been awarded ¡§The ten best design for the Capital, 95¡¨ in an exhibition entitled ¡§Architecture in Beijing 95¡¨ organized by the Capital City Planning and construction committee of China. In 1996 the Company appointed design consultant to the ¡§Hong Kong Room¡¨ in the Hall of the People, Beijing. In 1997 and 1998 projects in China included an apartment complex in Wu Kang Road, shanghai; a holiday complex in LunTamLake, Beijing; a resort development in near Chengdu in SichnanProvince and participated in the design competition for the Youth Centre in Shenzhen. Projects designed in 1999 and 2000 include residential district development in Suzhou, China; World Science & Technology Trade Centre and residential district, Beijing; Riverside holiday village, YangShouCounty; housing project at Yung Feng district, Fuzhou, China. In 2001 the company participated in the ¡§Innovative Housing Design¡¨ competition by the Hong Kong Housing Authority; residential complex at Juxian Bridge Road, Chaoyang District, Beijing, China; farm factory and restaurant at Sarinah Farm, ZhongShanCounty, Guangxi Province, China. In 2002 projects include housing complex at Pudong, Shanghai, China; memorial hall complex at Bundary Street, Kowloon, Hong Kong and Sakyamuni¡¦s cultural centre at Clear Water Bay Road, Saikung, Hong Kong. Many of the above mentioned projects have been published in the professional magazines. |
